Surgical management of nasty ears


This presentation will outline the decision making behind surgical management of ear disease. The critical steps required for a successful outcome will be highlighted, particularly case selection, indications for each procedure and the anatomy surrounding the ear with reference to how this influences potential complications. Practicals tips and solutions to common challenges encountered during ear surgery will be provided.

 

a) Understand the indications for a total ear canal ablation, lateral wall resection and a ventral bulla osteotomy
b) Become familiar with the anatomy surrounding the ear
c) Become familiar with the potential surgical complications and understand how to minimise these risks
d) Become familiar with the surgical instrumentation required to performed these procedures successfully
e) Develop a post operative management plan
